Welcome to Floors Castle – the home of the Innes-Ker family since it was built for the 1st Duke of Roxburghe exactly 300 years ago in 1721. The Castle continues to be home to me and my family, and what you see is a constant evolution of the generations who have lived here over the years in the Castle and Gardens. This year we are celebrating the 300th year of Floors Castle so we hope you enjoy the exhibition to commemorate this milestone which is on display for the year ahead, and we are delighted to have now hung the new portrait by Jamie Coreth which is to be found in the main hall of the Castle.
Just a short walk from the Castle you will find the spectacular Victorian Walled Garden with glasshouses, herbaceous borders and a formal Millennium Garden, and with our woodland and riverside walks plus the delightful cycle trail, there is so much to discover. Families are always welcome and we actively encourage children to explore and have fun during their visit.
At the Terrace and Courtyard Cafés you will find our amazing culinary outlets providing the best of the Borders for lunch or tea, and in the Apple Shed our Castle made food to take home along with gifts and deli. We all wish you a wonderful visit and look forward to seeing you soon.
March is a season to be hopeful, to look forward to the coming of Spring, named for Mars, the Roman God of War. Beyond the Roman roots that have so affected our calendar, ‘March’ has another, entirely different use.
It was 1977 when the 10th Duke of Roxburghe kindly opened the doors of Floors Castle to the public for the first time. To this day, with the 11th Duke in residence, visitors continue to marvel over the Castle collections and the architectural style that makes Floors one of the most iconic buildings in Scotland.
We are proud to be able to supply our visitors and guests with the best of the larder that the Scottish Borders has to offer, and will continue to manage the natural environment to support biodiversity and balance, in order to ensure the stability and sustainability of the habitats and populations to be found on the Roxburghe Estate.
